Meet
Whitby - he is our new sectional that we purchased at Scandinavian Designs. We went to the store in San Rafael about four times trying out couches. I seriously thought they were going to start charging us rent because we would go and stay for hours on end.
Needless to say, this is a monumental furniture purchase for us. First of all, Dave and I have very different tastes in furniture (and a billion other things). We also have totally different approaches when it comes to shopping and purchasing and decorating. And we are both stubborn and always right. It is amazing to me that we ever get anything done. But, I know when we decide and agree on something it has been debated seven ways to Sunday.
Also, monumental, this is the first major furniture purchase we have made together - out of the joint account without conversation of who gets what and which half if we break up. We did buy a bed, but I bought the mattress and Dave bought the bedroom furniture - you know, just in case, we broke up. Everything else is the result of the merge of moving in together. We did previously purchase a piece of art together - When Pigs Fly - it is aptly called, but it was slightly less expensive than the new sectional.
This is also monumental because our living room (which now houses a $50 Craigslist futon, my old super small art deco / Dave hates it so much coffee table, and Buddha is so bizarre. The room is not centered, the front entrance pathway to the rest of the house runs right in the middle of the living room, and it is three-steps lower than the rest of the top floor of the house.
So I cannot tell you how excited I am to see the new sectional arrive this coming Saturday. It is the first big step into joint compromise purchases, a fitting piece of furniture for our completely renovated house, and something we both think is fabulous.
Recently, I blogged about a cool coffee poster I saw online. I purchased the print and had it framed and hung it in the kitchen this weekend. I think it is so super cool. Finding a coffee table took almost as long as finding a couch... we basically wanted the Swiss Army knife of coffee tables and the Steamliner Coffee Table from Z Gallerie does the job. It is a coffee table, it is a bench. The cushioned top is removable for when you need a large hard surface. The table has four pull out trays for extended flat surface use. There is a shelf on the bottom to stow away magazines and remotes.
